What they do:

Impulse Biomedical is a multi-medical device development start-up based in Cape Town that that develops affordable healthcare technologies to address issues around anaphylaxis (severe allergies) as well as asthma. Their mission is to ensure that people can afford lifesaving medical devices by developing novel and innovative technologies that ensure cost effectiveness, improves clinical efficacy and overall quality of life. The team are starting off with their ZiBiPen – a reloadable adrenaline auto-injector as well as their Easy Squeezy - an asthma inhaler-assist device, but aim to develop numerous technologies moving forward.  ​

Proprietary tech (IoT) and hardware for major illnesses for like asthma (with their Easy Squeezy) and fatal allergies (with their ZibiPen injections).

The Founder:

Giancarlo Beukes is a mechanical and biomedical engineer, inventor, entrepreneur and co-founder of a multi award-winning medical devices start-up called Impulse Biomedical. Along with his business partner and fellow TEDx speaker, Gokul Nair, the vision that led to founding Impulse Biomedical was to develop affordable healthcare technologies for developing and emerging markets, with the aim of ensuring accessibility for all to necessary life-saving technologies.

Gokul Nair is a Mechanical Engineer (University of Cape Town), Biomedical Engineer (University of Cape Town), Inventor, Entrepreneur and Co-Founder. During his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cape Town, Gokul developed a number of technologies, including a reloadable adrenaline auto-injector (known as the ZiBiPen) as well as a novel drill guide test rig for patella femoral ligament surgery.
