Complete Farmer is an end-to-end digital platform that enables global industries to build their supply chains and source for agricultural commodities, grown by African farmers, to meet buyers specifications. Complete Farmer uses big data, IoT, and other precision agriculture technologies to give farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain a competitive edge.

Why we invested:

Africa's abundant arable land, comprising 60% of the continent, positions it as the third-largest globally for agricultural potential. This sets the stage for meeting the demand for agricultural commodities and feeding an estimated 9.5 to 10 billion people by 2050. With a projected $1 trillion market value by 2030, Africa anticipates robust growth in consumer demand for food products. Sub-Saharan Africa, currently importing $15 billion in food crops, faces a shift toward medium-scale farms (10 to 100 hectares) influencing policies, potentially becoming the dominant scale of farming, impacting agricultural dynamics in the region.

The Founder:

Desmond Koney is the Founder and CEO of Complete Farmer Inc. He is a mechanical engineer and product designer with interests in process optimization, product development and strategy development and implementation and challenging old norms to problem solving.

Desmond holds a firm belief that better products and processes improve livelihoods with a contrarian and pragmatic approach. He enjoys exploring possible design solutions to Africa’s pressing challenges, and is also interested in mechanical product design, IoT, Artificial intelligence, agriculture and renewable energy.
