Together for a better health

What they do:

Wayak is a pioneering healthcare platform that is revolutionizing access to affordable, quality care for underserved populations across Africa. With its patient-centric approach, comprehensive offerings, and innovative use of data analytics.

Wayak takes care of people who have chronic disease by offering them discounted medications delivered monthly to their homes, online 24/7 consultations with physicians and pharmacists, discounts at many of the leading diagnostic labs in Egypt, and an electronic medical record that can be stored on the mobile phone, and which gets updated every 6 months.

Why we invested:

Non-communicable diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease are rising rapidly across Africa due to factors like ageing populations, urbanization and lifestyle changes. The disease burden falls heavily on the working-age population and their dependents.

At the same time, public healthcare systems are underfunded and private options are unaffordable for most. Only around 20% of Africans have any form of health insurance, leaving 1 billion people underserved. Out-of-pocket expenditure on healthcare forces many into poverty.

This massive gap presents a $25 billion opportunity for Wayak today in Egypt alone. Across key markets like Nigeria, Morocco, Kenya and South Africa, the underserved population lacking insurance is over 300 million. Market sizing analysis points to a $200 billion opportunity by 2030 for affordable care models like Wayak.
