Susu
Insurtech | Cote D’Ivoire
Susu is a platform that makes healthcare affordable and accessible
What they do:
Founded in 2019, Susu operates in 4 countries (France, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, and Senegal). It offers care packages or bundles to patients suffering from chronic diseases like diabetes and pregnant women who require careful management to ensure their conditions are monitored and managed. Clients can also purchase insurance on the platform and pay with the same financing options, making more affordable with monthly-payment option.
Why we invested:
In Africa, the medical insurance penetration rate remains below 3%, primarily due to a lack of reliable medical and actuarial data, leading to the calculation of premiums based on unreliable statistical information. This results in overpriced products, making insurance unaffordable for many Africans. The vulnerable population, facing a rise in chronic diseases and maternal health issues, lacks information on prevention and support. Even those with insurance often face challenges such as high premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. The 34 million members of the African diaspora, supporting 120 million people, are concerned about the healthcare of their loved ones, but only a small portion of remittances contributes to healthcare. Susu, addressing these challenges, offers flexible payment options and the opportunity for diaspora or local relatives to fully or co-finance its products/services.
