KUNE
Food Tech | Kenya
What they do:
Kune provides affordable high-quality meals that are convenient and nutritionally balanced. The startup serves its market with takeaway meals available through delivery and pickup, or retail meals available at grocery outlets. Kune’s mission through its community of food lovers is to build a new food model that is tastier, healthier, and more affordable.
Why we invested:
The food market in Nairobi is polarized in terms of price and quality. The choice is between cheap meals that are low quality and limited in variation, or tasty meals that are expensive. A good quality meal will require you to either go sit down at a restaurant and spend an average of 45 minutes, or use delivery apps and spend an average of $10. This is not a sustainable meal option for most Kenyans.
The Founder:
Robin Reecht is the founder of Kune. He supported European start-ups to raise capital through Ayomi, a crowdequity platform and also created Hanoia, Vietnam's first coliving operator. Hanoia connected and inspired communities through 8 properties for more than 20,000 overnights.
No longer active:
Kune ceased to trade in 2023 and is no longer operational.
