Gigmile

Logistics | Nigeria

Gigmile is building the services and financial infrastructure for the African gig economy.

What they do:

Gigmile is a Mobility FinTech platform that offers vehicle subscriptions and financial services to gig workers in Africa. Through partnerships with OEMs and financial institutions, Gigmile provides rent-to-own vehicle financing to underserved informal workers in the logistics and transportation sector.

Why we invested:

In recent years, Africa has seen the launch of several digital commerce platforms like UberEATS, Jumia and Bolt. Upon the launch of these platforms, they expect to record exciting traction akin to the experience in America and Europe. But this is hampered by key challenges, one of which, is the very limited supply of gig workers. Africa has a massive population but potential gig workers do not have the required productive tools (vehicles, smartphones etc.) to participate in the gig economy. Beyond productive tools, there is also a huge pool of mobility-based entrepreneurs who need access to skills training and other financial services like micro credits which they need to thrive in this new economy.
